Meeting on Mathematics and Big Data

The goal of this meeting is to discuss the challenges and main directions in Big Data research within mathematics and ICT

There is a vast interest of industry, governments and society in Big Data and the opportunities it offers. Although large data sets existed before, one observes the emergence of massive datasets obtained, for example, from sensors placed in cars, airplanes, smart grids, smart phones and other devices, from social networks, etc. A major challenge is in extracting sensible information from these data using current hardware, software and mathematical methods.

The goal of this meeting is to discuss the challenges and main directions in Big Data research within mathematics and ICT. The keynote presentations will be given by international leading experts in different areas of Big Data research. The keynote talks will be followed by the presentation and discussion of the recent Dutch COMMIT2DATA initiative. (programme attached)

The workshop is jointly organised by NIRICT (Netherlands Institute for Research on ICT) and 3TU.AMI (3TU Applied Mathematics Institute).
